Meet Andy, a young man whose life has been shaped by the love, support, and opportunities provided by Not Forgotten.
When Andy first came to us, he faced significant academic challenges. Yet due to the unwavering dedication of our house parents, teachers, and staff, he made remarkable improvements in his grades and self-confidence. Earlier this year, Andy applied to the university in Iquitos with the dream of studying aquaculture.
Andy’s educational path remained full of obstacles. University entry alone is rare and highly competitive in Iquitos with few spaces for many, many applicants. The collective support and constant encouragement from his Not Forgotten family played a critical role in Andy’s perseverance and ultimate success. In April 2023, he embarked on his college journey. To God be the glory!
Beyond the clear personal gains, Andy’s example serves as a beacon of inspiration for the younger boys in our care, including his biological brother, Geyson. Seeing Andy overcome challenges and pursue higher education has ignited a spark in others, motivating them to dream big and work hard. We’ve moved from abstract hope to concrete possibility. What is stopping this narrative from being theirs, as well?
Andy’s story exemplifies Not Forgotten’s commitment to a holistic approach in caring for our children. It’s not just about providing shelter; it’s about creating an environment where each individual can flourish. By focusing on education, skill development, discipleship, and emotional well-being, we aim to equip these young men with the tools they need for a future full of promise.
In addition to seeing the dream of our first university student made manifest this year, we have built a third home at our Aporcar location. In January, eight more young men will call Aporcar home. In 2024, we look toward construction of greatly needed educational facilities for both Las Lomas and Aporcar. The ability to provide educational services uniquely tailored to each of our children is vital, as evidenced by Andy’s transformational story.
